Current Project - WIP

Ben's Combat Demo

University Module: Final Year Project

Grade: 84%, A+

This is my final year project, a third person shooter I am currently working on. You can see the development of the project in the Development Blog section of the website. You can access this by clicking HERE or by clicking the button at the top of the page

Some of the work on this project, both design and implementation, is looking to be some of my best work so far and it is a project I look forward to seeing being developed. I am aiming for a very high standard of work, something to surpass my previous work that already has reached a high standard in terms of grades.

LowPoly Project

Solo Project

Here I wanted to work on a third person shooter as I had just finished the University module; Journeyman. A group project in a team of 20. I received a grade of 81 which is an A+. However I felt this could be better. I worked on this solo project to improve upon some of the issues I wasn't happy with in Journeyman. In the end, I feel this project is an improvement. I made the environment myself in blender and I scripted it all using blueprints.

Beta Arcade - Yoink!

University Module: Beta Arcade (Group)

Grade: 80%, A+

This was a group project as part of Teesside University. I was in a team of 20 and was the Lead Designer on the project. I overlooked the design team and managed what each person was doing. I also created 2 game design documents and created many of the mechanics present in the game including; the player in the arrow minigame, lobby and final vault. Players compete with each other in each minigame to earn coins which will be used as each players health in the final minigame. I recieved a grade of 84%, 70% being an A.

The video has been recorded and uploaded by an environment artist on the team; Jacob Stokes.

Vision

University Module: Game Prototyping

Grade: 83%, A+

We were given an ICA for creating a twin stick controlled game. As the ICA stated it would be a prototype, I didn't take the time to create a player model and just focused on the mechanics, Keeping it a cube. I took great care thinking about pacing and looked to many level based games to see how it has been handeled before. I feel like the game has good pacing and interesting mechanics. For this project I recieved a grade of 83%, 70% being an A.

Mission Design

University Module: Mission Design

Grade: 80%, A+

I did not create the player mechanics. In this university module, each person was given a base project with enemies and a player. We had to design a level, mine is based in a sewer and the player needs to rescue somebody. I did alter some enemies near the end to work as a boss fight. My level included trains that would move every now and again to provide variation in the level layout. I received a grade of 80%.

Hello World

Solo Project

A project I had worked on over the course of the 2018 summer holiday, Hello World is a puzzle game set inside of an A.I. My main focus on this project was learning basic animation skills in Blender and then importing them into UE4 as well as attempting to create some interesting mechanics. The battery mechanic in this was planned on being used also in further levels of the game, being able to transfer energy to deactivate and activate different things provides many opportunities.

03 ABOUT ME

image0.jpeg

Currently studying Game Design at Teesside University, I work in Unreal Engine 4 and focus on mechanics design. I am constantly working on something to improve my skills in design and am always looking to better myself. Game design means a lot to me and my passion will be hard to beat, it is something I truly find exciting. I started my journey in game design in 2015 at college and moved to university in 2017. I work well both in a group and on my own and have a number of projects to demonstrate this.
